1911 Trigger Glitch

Niet, niet. You're not going to fix that by bending any sear spring leg.

You'll need a new sear and hammer fitted correctly.

It's one of the symptoms of dropping the slide on an empty chamber. Or swapping out parts for those fitted to other pistols.

Usually the hammer follows the slide to half ####, but if the half #### engagement is caput too there's a good chance for a slam fire.

ETA: Try re-installing the sear spring. Better yet, buy a new one from a reputable maker. Sometimes it's not positioned properly.

I agree 100% that a spring is not going to cure your problem.
IMO this is a problem with the sear , disconnector and/or the hammer. I am not a gunsmith but I am just finishing building another 1911 and have become somewhat familiar with how they work and also what can cause problems.

I have some sears & hammers still in my parts box. I also am expecting by mail any day a sear/hammer jig.

If you want some help , PM me as I think we are not that far apart. I am near Schomberg.

Unless you are a qualified gunsmith do not mess around with the sear/hammer engagement surfaces as you will most likely end up with a 20 pound trigger pull or machinepistol(seen it happen) and that's just not cool. It is easy to remove metal from these parts but is a real pain to try and put back if you screw up(forgetaboutit). Best to get your gun to a 'smith' like Jeff Smith in Petawawa(valley gunsmithing 613 687 2352) and have your issues rectifyied properly and SAFELY Regards Mike

I agree 100% with this.
What I have done which I feel is perfectly safe ( IMO ) is to take hammers & sears that I know are good quality & are stock and try different combinations to get a good, safe trigger pull. I have found that some just work better than others . I am not qualified to remove or even polish trigger parts.

A few years ago I was shown a gun that a shooter had worked on with a Dremel tool . It went FA on him with a full 10 round mag. The last one went into his jaw.

Can the hammer be pushed off of the sear when cocked? This will tell you if you have bad sear/hammer engagement. If not, odds are that the sear spring is either incorrectly installed or worn out.

I remember something like that during the early '90s and it was with a ParaOrdnance. About the time they first came out. He was messing with the hammer/sear engagements to lighten the trigger pull. Sad.
