1911 upgrades for a local gunsmith

I am in the market for a basic 1911, i prefer the look. My question is this, how easy are some of the modifications to upgrade it to do for a gunsmith? Will my local gunsmith be able to widen/flare the ejection port, polish the feed ramp etc etc even things like checkering. Thanks

I posted a similar question a while back. Most told me to send it to Armco to get the work done as he specializes in 1911's. If you have a problem with shipping you gun off to BC, or are intent on keeping it local, I would try to see if you can look at the local gunsmiths pistol work and maybe talk to customers who have had work done by the guy.

The best person to answer that question would be your local gunsmith. He should be able to at least tell you how many 1911's he as worked on and what kind of work hes is comfortable doing on them.

But without knowing who he is, it's pretty hard for anyone here to answer the question. If you are unsure about a gunsmith that you find locally, ask him either for pictures of 1911's that he has worked on, or better still - references form 1911 owners who's guns he has done work on.

It you are still unsure about your local gunsmith, send your gun to a well known 1911 'smith such as Armco, Dlask, TacOrd, or RK Custom Gunsmithing (Dark International). You can't go wrong with any of these guys. They are some of the best in the business.

Why not just pickup a Spartan and save the hassle?

The original poster said he wanted a "basic" 1911, which I presume does not include forward slide serrations, beavertails, full-length guide rod, etc.

You can get fairly plain-looking 1911s with an enlarged ejection port. Both the Norinco 1911A1 and the Springfield Milspec (not the GI model) come with a lowered and flared ejection port. Even the basic Colt 1991 Series 80 pistols have a larger ejection port than GI pistols.
