1911 variant?

Well, in Colt regular production there was the "Officers" model that had the shorter grip frame but it was also shorter in the slide as well. It would be a 12(6) prohib in Canada.

Close NAA, but there was one that had a 4 1/4 inch barrel & shorter grip, than a full size 1911.....hence only restricted in Canada. It had a Commander length slide.
I cannot remember if Colt was the manufacturer.

I've seen lots of wierd & wonderful things done on a semi-custom basis with 1911's over the years. So the above would not surprize me in the least. I don't recall if Colt ever offered it in factory trim, though.

OK maybe not, but I'm prety sure somebody did make this, just can't remember if it was a custom shop or a limited run.

Okay all you 1911 gurus, was there not a Commander slide/barrel combo, that had a shorter grip, IE-capacity was less than 7 rounds 45 ACP, single stack?

A Colt product/Custom item, once upon a time???

Cheers........:)

IIRC, you are reffering to the CCO (Conceal Carry Officer)

Commander slide on an officer frame!:)

Yeah, they did...I read on a couple 1911 pages that they had jam-o-matic problems with certain ammo, so colt discontinued it.kind of like the bull model I missed from marstar...John said they wont likely be getting any more in :(

:(why? :(why? :(did I miss this?

It seems to me, with the success of Questar's Compact Glocks, that there is a real market for small framed 4 1/4" barrel toys in Canada. Im surprised Norinco hasn't stepped up yet...or better yet Para...I'd buy a Para for sure.

Okcorral, I think you hit the NAIL on the Head buddy!

And as Vicktor says, this is definitly a missed market in Canada!

Guess Para is our only option, they do have the PT-1245 and PT-1445 LDA models, with 'double stack' mags too.

I seem to recall that particular configuration as well - a Commander with Officer-size grip. It may have been a Wilson Combat, but I don't remember for certain.

Ed Brown, Wilson and I believe Wayne Novak (and perhaps others - C&S??) used to make these on special order. I guess they were for those in the US that didn't like the Officer's recoil spring set up. They would be great for Canada but in the US there's really no advantage. Oh, and congratulations to our American members on the recent Supreme Court ruling that effectively says that blanket gun bans are not legal, good fight guys!

I put together a few SS Randall LeMay pistols. These had Officer model 7 shot length grip, and Commander length slide.

I also built a few "DOLTS" ... Detonics Combat Master 6 shot grip, and Commander slide, and the reverse ... Commander full size frame, and Detonice SHORT slide.

These really were nice variations ... the Detonics 6 shot butt left your finger hanging, but with the LeMay/Officers grip, you could grind a relief cut up under the trigger guard, and then I could get my whole hand on the grip without a magazine extension.
LAZ 1

Laz - They seem to still be around, too. Recall Al showing me one of your makings that came into IO on consignment a couple years back. They are still out there....
