1911? Which one to avoid a like a psycho ex-girlfriend?

Best bang for the buck in my opinion is the Sig. After that the Rock Island Armory are very good and if your pockets are getting deeper there's a little known Canadian company that makes unbelievable quality 1911's called Canstar Arms, made somewhere in Ontario. Best metals, all parts hand made and hand fit, polished to mirror like finishes, etc. The Canstar 1911's are some of the nicest ones I've ever seen or fired but they're all close to or above the $3K range.
Just my 2 cents.

Are you saying that you have actually examined (fired?) a Canstar Arms 1911 that didn't belong to the guy who owns the company - because if you have, it's better than seeing a unicorn running down Yonge Street on a Friday night.

My Norinco was better built and had nicer internals then my Canadian made Para LTC, which was the ugliest piece of crap 1911 that ever was. Oddly, it shot great, despite that fact that it was clearly assembled by monkeys on a Friday afternoon, just after receiving a layoff notice because the company was moving to the US. I now shoot STI, which is a far better choice and has great customer service.

I don't know where you get the information. Canstar infact never produce any to sell, there are quite a lot of topics here that people place order and never get the f@*king gun. I was quite excited about our own Canadian gun company but they screwed out hopes. They don't made the parts either.

Trigun

Don't know why you have that impression. I bought two 1911's direct from Canstar and there is a distributor being set up on the West Coast as we speak. They're also pumping out a new .50 BMG semi shortly from what I heard.

I did a search this morning on here to see all the quotes of people who "place orders and never get the f@*king gun." There is no such topic anywhere on this site that I'm able to find through the search engine so either they've been removed or you're mistaken. I had no issue whatsoever making my order and getting my pistols promptly. If there were such complaints, maybe the company was still in startup and having a hard time keeping up with demand? I don't know the history or how long they've been around. What I do know is that I love the product!

Wish I'd bought a lottery ticket or seen the unicorn because I personally own two that I just recently purchased and I spoke to the company owner. He's producing a whole new line of toys including a 50 BMG semi, mag fed. I'm watching for that one.

You mean like this? http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...adian-made-1911/page17&highlight=Canstar+Arms

Strange. I did my search in the forums under "Canstar" and that string didn't show up. It was an interesting read, might have had me hesitate to make my purchase if I'd seen it beforehand but luckily everything worked out for me. Like I said, maybe just too much demand too quickly on an upstart company that wasn't quite ready? They seem to be now. I'll post pics and updates as I use them more and more to let others know how they're holding up.

Enefgee, thanks for the link :)

I think kimbers are overpriced but not a bad gun if they were $550 dollars.

I like norc or SAM with a tune up by a known gunsmith.

I find more pricey 1911s usually need a bit of gunsmith work to start out with. It kind of bugs me when you spend $1000 and it still needs work.

This is also my experiance.

The absolute best 1911 on the market today for less than $500....... An Armco Tuned Nork. (is he even still around?)

Second best, a Ruger SR1911 (IMHO) I have one and it is the first 1911 that I ever owned that fed SWC, HP, LRN and Ball out of the box. All others required tweaking.

I have owned Colts, Kimber, SAM, STI and a host of others. The Armco Tuned Nork 1911A1 (I have 2) is the benchmark IMO that I hold all other 1911's to. It may not be the most accurate, but it always goes bang.

There are 9 1911's in my safe, 4 are Norks. That says something......

I have a Canadian made Para SSP and it's an excellent .45. Too bad they went to :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: when things changed in the company.

I liked my first Para SSP so much I bought a second! (both made in 2006) After Para moved to the states QC was not up to par (2009-2011) and that is where the hate comes from but Para seems to be back on track and has GREAT customer service. Check out Travis Tomasie over at -- http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Anyways, I have nothing bad to say about them but yes the double stacks are kinda useless for Canada. But if you want a good cheap 1911 check out the Para GI Expert Ellwood Epps has a bunch. I have no experience with them but on the 1911 forums, the Umurkins seem to love 'em.
