OK - so I'm about to buy another 1911 - only because it has no markings on it (cant post pics because I dont own the gun yet). All of my other 1911's (And clones) have manufacturer and date, etc on it. Damn I cant even find the serial no. on it (though cert has 88755 as SN on it)
Has anyone ever seen a Colt 1911 without the markings saying it was a colt? or any other manufacturer...Norcs come to mind, but they always say China somewhere on it...this damn thing only has 1911 on the left side of the slide and .45 Cal on the right. Any thoughts???
Cheers

Post some detailed pics... one of each side showing some detail.... when you can. I'm sure someone will be able to give you an ID for what you've got... ;)

NAA.

Maybe was a seizure? Serial stripped off by criminal, seized by police, then sold off?. Obviously before all the BS came into play. I am not at all saying it is illegal. I know several people on here have former "crime" guns they bought of the police years back.

It could be a Norinco frame. There were a few Norinco 1911's imported as frames only that were not marked in anyway. They were given a cert number and the CFC used the reference number as the identifier. I know because I have two myself.

If it is one of these you can call the CFC and request a sticker, and you can stamp or engrave the reference number on the unit yourself later. I talked to the CFC about this when I first got them.

Thanks Pocket - would you happen to have a pic or two for comparison?

you used to be able to buy frames from essex amongst others that were either in the white or the last stages of machining- ie all you needed was a monkey and a file- these were unmarked as it was up to the final finisher/maker/gunsmith to add his own serial- same deal for slides-

My Nork has no markings, just the serial #....... I removed them! :D

It can be done, but its a heck of a lot of work, if I knew then what I know now...... I wouldn't have bothered..... I'm 38+hrs in and I'm still not done!

Cheers!
