Hey there,

I am really not a 1911 expert.

I have a very nice 1980s IPSC Springfield 1911A1 race gun in 38 super that I got from a friend of my dad.

I want to convert it to 9mm to standardise calibers.

I installed a 9mm match barrel. and when I tried loading 9mm in the 38 super mags and had issues feeding as the round nosedived.

I bought 2 MecGar 9mm mags and loaded them and left them for 2 weeks in the safe to break in the spring. Then tried them with snap caps and had no issues feeding.

Then at the range most round keep nosediving. This is with handloads and factory ammunition. Accuracy is excellent and extraction is fine.

Any recommendation on what my next steps would be ?

are there different angled plates I can get somewhere to fix this issue ? or maybe I should swap the extractor ?

Let me know what you think my next step should be.

thanks

If you are already using 9mm mags, with handloads, you can try adjusting the overall length and try a round nosed bullet. Next suspect: feed ramp. A gunsmith can easily identify the extent of adjustment required. I don't think extractor is your issue as the diameter of 38 super and 9mm are pretty close.

For most 9mm mags, they have a spacer that keeps it forward.

If you use the super mags, you will have to make the OAL about 1.20

If you don’t reload, you need to get 1911 9mm mags
