Hey everyone, I’m looking into my first handgun and I would like to hear what you guys think of my choices. I have been shooting since I was 16 and I have thought long and hard about what calibre I would like to own first and it is going to be a .45acp. I have heard a lot about 1911's and they seem like a good choice I have shot one as well and it was very nice, but recently I saw a handgun at Al Simmons that caught my eye. It is a cz make model 97b, and the thing looks amazing. I have read a lot from people who own them and they all say they are beautiful accurate firearms. I would like to know what you guys think. Should I cheap out and by a Norinco 1911? Get a Springfield 1911? Or should i dish out $870 for a cz 97b?

I have both. The 97 b is great But grips are big and not a lot of accessories like the 1911. I'm not sure but the 97 b is too heavy and can not be used in some shooting sports. Try one before you buy it.

It depends on what you want more..... a single action, single stack [aka 1911] or a double action, double stack [the CZ97]..... Both can be fine handguns, though. How does the CZ fit you?

Personally, I've never owned a CZ .45 as I find the single stack 1911 .45 fits me best. I have owned CZ75's in 9mm before, found they fit me well, and were excellent pistols, though.

NAA.

I have tried to find people who own a cz 97b but so far no luck, I plan to go back to Al Simmons and ask to hold the handgun to see if it fits comfortably in my hands. I have noticed that there are not many accessories for the cz but I will probably only be target shooting it doesn’t bother me that much. Since you own one though what do you think of the finish and have you had any problems with the barrel bushing? I have heard that the earlier versions of the handgun the bushing would break off.

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=503286 for a very interesting set of posts on Norinco quality in their 1911. I guarantee you'll be amazed by this thread! Having siad that, be careful which Norinco, because they are an ex/im branding company, not a manufacturer (I think).

The finish is great and the gun works great. The feeding problems i have had was due to my home rolled. My 1911 had the same issues. if you can come out to ESSA I will let you try it. AGE
