I seem to have this desire to get a 1911 in 9mm ... I already have 1911's but all in .45 ... wondering your opinions and experiences on the good old 1911 but in the lighter caliber.

Right now I have my eye on either the Kimber Stainless II 9mm or the Colt Government Stainless 9mm ...

Your thoughts? Suggestions? Experiences?

Thanks

I have read somewhere folks indicating shorter barrel/slide lengths are more reliable at cycling 9mm in the 1911 format. Don't know if that is bunk or not.

I have a SAM Sigma 9 that I really like. It happens to be a shorter (commander) length. Never any issues with it. Have also had Kimber in the past but only in 45 so can't comment on their 9mm. Have not had any other 9mm in the 1911 format so can't offer a comparison.

Good luck!

I have a Kimber 9mm Stainless II Target that I used for PPC Service last year. Probably put 1200-1500 rounds through it, had maybe 2 FTFs and that was with lead RN bullets. Accurate as well. I also have a SAM SS Enhanced Commander in 9mm and it has been extremely accurate and dependable as well. Only have a few hundred rounds through it but no FTFs or FTEs.

I know it's sacrilege to say so but I much prefer the 9mm 1911 to the 45 ACP 1911.

Do you have a preferred use for it IPSC, competition or just range use?

I've had a few STI 1911s in 9mm and they have all been excellent. Still own one. I wouldn't hesitate to grab another.

Thanks,
Cal.

Couldn't agree more... I have a STI trojan probably have around 15000 rounds down the pipe accurate as hell love this gun to death its had trigger and spring work but the gun is silky smooth.
I also have a Para 1911 LDA in 9mm a Springfield loaded in 9mm hands down the STI is the best.

I had a SAM Sigma 9.
It was a great gun in 9mm
Very well made especially for the price.

I had Armco tuned NP29 and RK Custom tuned 9mm Trojan.

Both ran like champs...Put bazzilion rounds through both. The 9mm 1911 really soaks up the recoil even hot 9mm reloads were a breeze.

Sti for sure....I traded all my othe 1911's...none of them handled so sweetly...doesn't however stop me looking...

I went with springfield. They've been doing it nerely aslong as colt and really did produce some magic in my loaded target.
Locks up tighter than a nun's undergarments and the slide is tighter than an elephant in a hallway!

With an aftec extractor i've done 4000rds thru it for an ipsc pistol with not one issue.
Price was less than an sti trojan and came with the ambi controls. And it was a ###y stainless.
