1911's Pics Thread

Pocketfisherman, may I ask how much a top quality resto, such as the Rand was given, would run a fellow?

Nice Canadian deadman, I recently recieved my 2nd Canadian Contract Colt

Regarding restoration costs. First off, I would only recommend doing it if the 1911 is seriously in need of it with missing finish and or pitting or modifications that can be corrected.

If the gun has 60% finish and above I would keep it as is.

The ones I look for are the examples without any finish left or pitting in areas that can be fixed. That Remington Rand costs were around $350.00, but it was seriously messed up.

Just got this one done for the wife.... To match her shotgun.
****PICTURES SNIPPED TO MAKE SHORTER.
Yeah, that just happend.

That's the most dangerous thing I have seen in pink, right after the Hello Kitty ar-15. lol

I guess I should post a pic of mine: Finally done. Norinco 1911A1, Storm Lake Barrel with 2 port comp, Norc sporter trigger (I was supposed to get a dlask, but Canadapost lost it... like always), and some Bubinga wood grips I made myself (that's right, one off's with an awesome mag release thumb dip :) ).

canuck,
Two nice old timers. Do you have the stories behind them?

Thanks! Neither of the two are pristine examples but that just goes to show that they were actually carried in war and not by some pencil pusher :p

The one with the Colt letter I bought from a gentleman on the west coast. He had recieved it from his Uncle's estate, I don't think he will mind if I post a part of an Email he sent me:

I understood that this particular piece had a history that I now am unsure about, having learned of its age. It had originally (prior to my uncle) been owned by his lawyer, Bill Street. I believe this to be true. Bill was a Captain in the Canadian Army in WW2. This was true. He was engaged in a firefight in a bunker (unsure if ally or enemy) when he had to shoot two German soldiers with his sidearm. I understood this to be that weapon, but now that I understand it to be WW1 issue, I probably have made an incorrect assumption on that part of the tale.

I've done some (little) research but have never been able to find Mr Bill Street or any family to put some credence to the story.

In any case, the gun is a numbered Canadian Colt contract, the letter proves that, and there is a name written in on the inside flap of the holster which came with it:
Lieut. _ _ _ _ (I can't recall the name, and can't make it out in the pic)
72 Batt. Canada (Seaforth Highlanders I assume)

The other Colt, which I just recently recieved, came from eastern Canada with, unfortunatly, no story of the history behind it.
It has a couple of small proofs which I haven't been able to identify and find curious - one on the slide near the pony, another on the frame just under the safety.
Also curious that it came with a left handed holster which appears to be era correct.
The grips on it are in exceptional condition (IMO).
I have sent for a Colt letter for it, but I am fairly certain it is also one of the 5000 contract pistols.

Pristine examples or not, at least they haven't been chopped up like mine. I'd leave mine the way it is if it wasn't for the cut frame. I'm cursed with a knack for finding pistols that have been messed with.

Deadman, who put that nice dark park on your Colt/Rand. Looks outstanding!

I can't take the credit for that one, I bought it from a fellow on gunnutz who always pops up with pictures of his interesting GI pistols to get me in trouble with my wife (I've bought two from him in the last couple weeks, the Colt/Rand, and some ratty old thing....UMC/Colt or something like that :D)

Nick from Vulcan Gun Refinishing did the park. Here's a closeup:

There is some pretty extensive pitting on the pistol, hopefully it will be less noticeable with some range/holster wear. I bought it for my son to use when we go shooting. He wanted an airsoft, but I think this will probably be an adequate substitute.
