Is there really that big an advantage having your 1911's front sight dovetailed versus having the traditional staked front sight? I have read that staked sights are not as durable and can work loose on a 1911 but am unsure if this has any truth to it.
Some people say that dovetailed is better since you can switch them out yourself, which I would never trust myself to do in the first place, especially since as far as I know the Norc Police model's dovetail in the front is not cut to any standard size, so I would have to filed the front sight down to fit. So anyways.... staked..... is it just as durable as dovetailed? This would be assuming that Gunnar has checked it over and restaked it if not done properly in the first place.
The reason I am asking is, I cannot decide between getting the Norc Police model, or the standard GI Norc. I just sold my Police model to my dad, but after I sold it to him.... I shot it more, and got used to the feel of the 1911, and am kicking myself in the ass for selling it now. The only thing holding me back from getting the GI model, is the issue of the front sight.
Thanks
