I'm purchasing a 1914 Colt 1911 commercial from a friend and I'm wondering if there are any helpful hints anyone wants to point out since it is a 1911 not a 1911A1. It will be my first .45.

If it is in good shape i would consider it a collector and wall hanger. Is it a Canadian contract piece for the Army?

Too nice to beat up by regular shooting. That is what a Norinco is for.

Good advice so far.... if you do buy it & decide to shoot it, do so sparingly. If you want a 1911 to shoot lots get one of the $349 Norcs from Can-Am.

How about some pics?

Chemist,

The members are right, you can shoot it "occasionally" but it's a collector's item. Post some pictures, maybe it's been modified, customized and refinished and it has lost all collectible value.

****I thought you might like to know... If it's a commercial then it is not a 1911 but a Government model. 1911, was the model issued to US Army, while the civilian was called the Government model and has a "c" in front of the serial number.

Here...it should look like these!
