Just wondering how common these rifles are. Way I understood it they were let through from Sept 15 1915 until Jan 2 1916 when they introduced the No1 MKIII* officially. I have one that bubba molested that is dated 1915, marked as a III and has no slot. I can post pics of the receiver later, but I'm starting a restoration on it so no complete pics for a while. Any idea how many got through and is this one of them?

Does anyone know if my assumptions about this rifle are right? I'd imagine how many were built probably isn't known but has anyone else been seeing them?

Im very interested how you got your SMLE looking like it came off BSA's assembly line,..is it bluing, or oil blackened, as the Brits, i believe would use to put a finish on their SMLE rifles...very nice job..

Its outers cold blue. When I bought the rifle it had a spray painted finish on it. When I used paint stripper it came right clean. I think it was previously bead blasted possibly. There was no blueing on it. I did 5 or 6 coats of the cold blue and that's how it turned out. I'll hopefully have completed pictures of it up in the restoration thread in a few weeks. Thanks for the compliment, my first run at it
