1916 Lee Enfield MkIII* - sporterized

Listen to the Englishman. People get fixated on headspace when its not really that big of a deal in Lee Enfields. The incidents of them blowing up from firing factory ammo are practically zero. If it were any higher than that we would have heard about it on CGN by now.

Sure, but my concern is more if someone re-chambered it to a different calibre.

Do you have a round of 303 ammunition? Does it chamber?

You mentioned a chamber cast, which would be perfect to find out as to how the rifle is chambered.

I often do a 'quick and dirty' chamber cast with the use of candle wax. Not the best but it works well enough for me to get a general idea of what's going on.

The rifle could have been re-bored or re-chambered for sure, but looking at the modifications, this one has not been across the gunsmith's bench for modifications. I would guess at more of an end user customisation.
There are not a lot of options it when it comes to re-chambering a mil spec barrel in 303Br. I would look to see if it is still in its original caliber.

Take a 303 round and insert it in the end of the barrel. If it goes in to the ogive , the odds are that its .311 or so. If a round fits in the chamber at all its probably 303. Even if the chamber is bigger, all it will do is blow out the case. You won't even notice until you eject the empty. Quit worrying about it.

^^^ really remote possibility. You're way overthinking this. If it were mine, I'd just go out and shoot the thing.

I'm not overthinking it, I'm just thinking about $$$. I don't have any .303 handy at the moment, and it's pretty expensive so it'd make sense to find a way to make sure it was chambered as that beforehand, instead of dropping the money on what would be useless ammo.

Great ideas and thoughts, really appreciate it.
