1930 s Scope

Hey Hy , I 'm looking for a period correct 1930's
scope to mount on my Stevens 418 .22lr.

Some direction and/or advice is welcome.

Stevens and Winchester both made scopes that would look really good on a Favorite.

Most of the Unertl and similar would look a tad oversize for such a light rifle, I think.

The down side is the requirement to drill and tap for the scope mounts. As the saying goes "That sh!t is PERMANENT!".

Hilux has repros of a lot of old school scopes, and the stuff they repro, can give you some leads for names to look at.

Being a 418, is the barrel drilled and tapped for scope blocks? If so, an externally adjustable scope like a Fecker or Lyman would be appropriate. Those scopes have 3/4" tubes, so would not overwhelm the rifle.

Yep , it is drilled , I had another 418 which had Unertl blocks on it.

Hey trevj , I am not certain on the Winchester scopes but all
of the Stevens factory scopes utilized the front & rear sight dove tails
for their scope blocks.

As well all of the Stevens scopes i've seen are full barrel
length 24'' / 26'' even on the little favorite.

A Weaver 330 wouldn't look out of place.

How about an externality adjusted brass 3/4” scope. I have a 43 Mauser with a 4 power on it. I believe mine is 36” but you can get shorter ones.

Hey , I found a Lyman 422 expert , perfect to install
on the Stevens Favorite .

That I will install and post pics later.

A Unertl Super Varmint 20x came up , looks
fantastic only it is 3 mtrs too long.

Here is a Weaver 330 on my O3A4 clone. Simple 1930s scope. Optics are actually quite good. 3/4" tube doesn't overpower a .22 rifle.
