I'm a weak, very weak person.... I can be tempted very easily...
Went to my local store yesterday to get some ammo and there is a 1932 Mosin looking at me....without blinking....
It has a hecked receiver, very nice wood and darker bore. I couldn't say NO to it. Paid $165.00....
Brought it home, it kept looking at me with the eyes tearing the cosmoline... I had to put it into the steam bath, lots of cosmo came out.
And now it is a beautiful gun, all cleaned and lubed and happy.
Had a little fight assembling the bolt, but managed it finally.

SO, is there any tips or tricks to it that you can share? All comments are welcome and much appreciated.

Buy lots o ammo, shoot it at least 3 or four times at various ranges before touching anything & clean it the same day after you shoot every time.

Picking up my first 91/30 tomorrow myself...a 1927. I have two M38s, so I'm somewhat familiar but haven't shot them yet. Hoping the bolts all slide, eject and close reasonably smooth.

I wish I could luck into such a find at that price! Well done sir, you wont be disappointed by it!

You could give it a trigger job, put it in an Archangle stock and scope it by taking off the rear sight...or you could leave it alone and it will perform very well. My 91/30 never lets me down and always comes to the range with me.

Like desporterizer said, shoot it and clean it the same day and you'll never have an issue. :)

Thanks guys! That's exactly what I'm going to do: shoot it often, enjoy it and shoot it again :))))
Clean in between of shooting. It's given!
I'm not looking into any customization at all, I like it all natural, the way it meant to be 80+ years ago....

They kick like a fecking mule so it might be a good idea to get a recoil pad for it. I've been giving some thought to this myself as the 100 round mark in a day is very, very painful :p

I am aware of that and considering getting one too. But I want to shoot it first the way it is, like my ancestors did.
By the way, where do you get this pad? Is one better than another? What would be recommended?

Good price on a polygonal receiver version! If you want to get the most out of the rifle, you could try floating the barrel - I hear the Finns did this to get more accuracy out of their Mosins back in the day, so it wouldn't be too historically inaccurate!

Actually the old trick to get them to shoot better was to wrap the barrel in oil soaked strip of cloth a few inches back from the end of the handguard. The barrel is far to long and thin to float so its best to create consistent points of contact.
Here's a link that explains it a little better.

That's a great link, thanks. I think I'll have to try this, looks like a trip to Rona is in order!

Well I picked up my Hex 1927 Izzy 91/30 today.
I was a private sale package deal that came with 430 rounds of Chinese x54.
I paid $200. I'll show it off in another thread.

Be careful..the damn things are family oriented and they will multiply when you aren't looking!...

Yeah tell me about it.... I got my first rifle - SKS and promised to my honey that this is the only one gun that I'm getting.... I'm running out of excuses now to justify the next gun I buy!!! I think she pretty much gave up on me. I alway tell her that it could be much worse hobby, or drugs or motorcycles or God knows what else....

You'll never regret buying a mosin, kudos on the choice. It was mentioned above that if you plan on shooting her often, you'll appreciate a recoil pad of some sort. I sent 160 rds downrange a couple weekends ago out of a 91/30 and a M44 and I found the shoulder for about a week. I think TradeEx have recoil pads for mosins for 25$, if that works for ya. Happy shooting.
