A different thread reminded me about a weird marking on my Mosin.

Is that the import info? The rifle came in a modern style cardboard rifle box with bayonet, cleaning kit and oil cans.

Here are some more pics.

Yes I'm on my porch. Because I live in the country and no one cares about people having guns lol. come fall. This baby will hopefully drop my first deer.

It is one of the Russian export marks. Russian law says they can't sell military surplus arms, thus they are "marked" as "sporting" or "hunting" rifles to get around that. There should be more markings on the barrel under the handguard and there is probably a few other <RNC> markings on the bolt and other areas as well.

That was quick. Thanks! I figured the RU was for Russia. I failed at googling the other letters. I just took it back out of the safe. Yup rnc on the bolt, and upper receiver. The butt plate has a 4 digit number scratched out and the 5 digit serial number etched above the triangle. Definatly stamped and not machined. Rifle still looks good and shoots straight.

In this case it's European / International law. Markings indicate the firearm was in Russia and Germany. Many firearms pass through or are exported from Germany.
