I was looking at a SVT , marked with the Tula star and dated 1940. It has the longer receiver bridge.
Instead of being square the bridge seems longer than it is wide. It is also marked with a square stamp over the Tula star. Am I correct in my assumption that this was a SVT-38 converted to SVT-40 configuration?
Other than that , I can see no differences that stand out. It is still in cosmoline , and has had typical arsenal stock repairs. Is this extra box stamp a desirable stamping ? I think I'm going to buy this one.
I've been looking for a while and this one seems average except for that stamp. It is local to me , and a private deal , so no shipping charges or tax to contend with. It is twice the price I payed for my sks though.
Which seems to be the norm right now.

I did. It will probably sit beside the SKS , and the two of them will never get shot. Oh well . They help fill out the milsup collection.
I shoot the bolt guns a lot . I'm a mauser man at heart.

Yep. That's the one. With the longer receiver bridge. Thanks to Horilka and DALEK for confirming my thoughts about being a reworked m38.
