Hey guys,

I recently picked up all matching 1943 German Hi Power. I was wondering if anyone had any information as to tracking down any information on the name in the holster? I realize that name could have been written on any time since 1943 but it would be interesting to do some research.

Artyman, you probably already know this but those black tipped cartridges were meant to be used exclusively as SMG ammo.

From personal experience, I've had extractors ripped out of P38s and broken a toggle on a beat up but mechanically sound P08.

I also witnessed an Inglis P35 bulge a barrel with that stuff, after warning the owner about the pressures it developed. He poo pooed me and claimed there wasn't any 9x19 made for military purposes that would harm his Inglis. After all, one of the reasons the Sten and P35 were produced, was to take advantage of the tons of captured 9x19 the allies had on hand.

That Hi Power is gorgeous, especially with the holster. By the way, get in touch with the German Consulates office in Canada, they can trace that name back and confirm whether or not it was issued to a soldier, police officer or whomever.

Best to start checking HERE.

Likely a Canadian name; if so, DVA will have a file.

POSSIBLY Waffen-SS or Vlasov Army, but also could be Wehrmacht. German military archives are in Potsdam. Don't know if they have the SS records or not.

If he was Vlasov Army and lived to tell about it, he was a very lucky man. Most were sent back to USSR and executed immediately.

I would think that if it was a Ukrainian serving in the axis army the name would be written in Cyrillic script...so I would say it is a North American bring back....just my $.02...round it off to $0.00.
Lots of 'chucks in Canada and US.

Thanks for the info guys. I do know not to shoot that ammo through any of my side arms. I have an AC42 P38, this Hi Power and a 1938 Luger on the way so the ammo is just for show. I have fired a box of 124gr Winchester 9mm through it with no issues. The bore is almost mint and it shoots very well.

I will attempt to research the name in the holster further.

Google says there is a Walther Hawrychuck in San clara Manitoba . he might be a relative of the fellow. thats were I would start.

That makes sense, I figured it was some Ukrainian fella that brought it back as well.
