1943 Mosin 1891/30 Front sight

Hey guys,


Was at the range today and broke off the post sight trying to bend it back to straight. It came bent and then i broke it off, so got it drilled out and a new post ready to go in. But i need to know how high the factory sight post sits from the base.


Also while i'm at it, aren't lots of people making the front sight taller to bring the shots down? If so how high are people going with those ones?

Try a "blue q-tip" cut it to desired length and use the rest of it to clean your rifle. Cheap and work's great!

yeah, just looking for a lenght to start at, i have a steel post just don't know how long it should be.

found on another site 15.5mm from the top of the barrel in front of sight base to the tip.

yeah thats fine if you want to have 10 different posts sitting in our tool box, i made mine about 18mm tall and will zero with the back sight, lots of good info on that link though.
