could anyone ple tell me about a SANTA FE GOLDEN STATE ARMS 1944 SHARP SHOOTER cal. appears to be 30'06 dosn't say anywhere but it chambers the round perfectly , its a mauser 98 action.
any help would be much appreciated i have only the barrel ( no sights sporter )and action thinking about a stock from cabelas.

Santa Fe was a U.S. importer that built sporting rifles out of surplus rifles. Lee-Enfields, M1903/A3's as well as Mausers. They sold kits at one time too. Assembled correctly they shoot very well.
"...appears to be .30-06, doesn't say anywhere but it chambers the round perfectly..." You need to do a chamber cast to be sure. And slug the bore. A net search indicates a Santa Fe/Golden State Model 1944 is a .303 British. Mind you, a .30-06 cartridge won't fit in a .303 chamber.
Any aftermarket K98 stock should fit. You might as well glass bed it too.

Many thx Sunray I also read about the 303 brit. but it wouldn't chamber a round, 06 fit perfect which is why I was asking for a bit of info. Like you say slugging the barrel is the best answer.

Bullett drop

Can anyone tell me why my 270 is still shooting high about 4 in. above centre, at 200 yrds. when I did sight it in at 100 yrds at 3 in. BULLETS DID not drop to centre using remington core 150 gr. Maybe sighted in a little too high I think otherwise I am happy with the Savage 270 111 Bushnell Elite 3200
