I recently purchased a lovely m96 in great shape. It is a fantastic shooter and i would love to put a scope on it
Would it be a sin to use an accumounts repro m41b scope mount?

Yes it is a sin. You will go to hell.
That's a pretty expensive mount.
Not sure why you would bother unless you dead set on making a clone.
Just get the Swedish M96 Dual Mount. It accomplishes the same thing and you dont irreversibly mess with the rifle.

If you want to a real swede sniper i will you mine.

don't mess up a good one.
find another that has already been messed with, 80% of those shoot excellent.
Intersurplus, top of the page have what you need.

I have a NDT badace mount on my m38. I kind of want to make a clone, I did not spend very much for the m96

These rifles have been going up in price. A few years ago I bought a 1914 rifle and a 1944 carbine for $400. I can get more than that for just one now. Now minimum $600 each possibly more. I about 8 years I can more than double my money. If you modify your rifle you are actually decreasing the value. Your rifle your choice but I wouldn’t do it.

OP, leave it alone.

It doesn't matter that you didn't pay a fair price for the rifle. Just use your big head and figure out that you will devalue that rifle from what it's worth now to a few hundred dollars and that doesn't include the cost of drilling and tapping for a permanent mount etc.

There are lots of M38 and M96 rifles on the EE and other sites for sale, at very reasonable prices.

You certainly aren't looking for original equipment, so what is the point of taking a relatively valuable piece and making it less valuable??

Go onto the INTERSURPLUS SITE, a banner sponsor at the top of the page. They will likely have exactly what you're looking for, already made up, for less than it will cost you to butcher the rifle you have now.

You can easily sell the rifle you have now on the EE for more than enough to cover the cost of one of the offerings on the Intersurplus site.

Geez, I just pulled a BadAce mount with a Bushnell variable long eye relief scope of of a M38 I bought recently. Thank God the previous owner kept the rear sight components, and I was able to put it back to original. It is a real shooter as is, and even with my 60+ year old eyes, I would take it deer hunting as is right now. Don't hurt a good rifle. Buy a commercial or pre-butchered one from Intersurplus; they have lots, and will shoot just fine, and not bother your conscience.

If I can get a butchered rifle at the right price with the rear military sight attached, I would consider building a scout rifle. My original M96 and M38 are going to continue in their old age as they were born.

Do as you wish, it's your property, sort of. We got 'nuff rules and regs telling us what we can and can't do. This one's your call.

Ok looking at first post I see it's an m96 but even so leave as is follow bearhunters advise intersurplus has some m96 with side mount and scope ready to go

I've been considering making a similar rifle myself, but I wouldn't ever consider buggering up a good clean gun for some replica mount. If you can get your hands on a gun thats already been modified in some form or another, it'd more or less be free game at that point. However, it is your property. Clean examples of the rifles are getting more scarce and expensive, and would be a lot more valuable in time than a replica build ever would be.
