My most recent purchase:

It did not come with the case and the PH5C in the pictures. Has anyone seen a case like that before? And, who can identify the sling?

About the AJP sight, I havent seen many that are not marked for 7.62. Are they not that common? What makes the AJP 4/47 better than the PH5C?

The sights are fine. The sling looks to be a repro 1918 US sling. The No4 MkI came with an original canvas sling.

That 1918 replica is a darn good sling, if you take the time to learn to use it properly. The original sling used on Garands, Springfields and No4 MkI T rifles were among the few it was used on.

The case is a more recent Cdn Forces production of the older Lee Enfield case. When the first C7s came out, with the standard carry handle, they would fit in these cases. The newer green cases had the same NSN as the older Lee Enfield cases, which were still in the system in the early 80s.

When the C7 was modified to flat top with Elcan scope, they would no longer fit into these cases unless the scope was removed. As a result, these cases were eventually made somewhat redundant, although they can still be found hiding in the back of QM stores here and there.

I don't think the M1907 Sling is a repro, it takes years to get the green on the brass leather contact area. The patina looks to be real, The leather also looks like it's been handled because it's a bit grubby.

I have has several repro slings, they all look mint with nice shinny hooks. I also have seen chemically altered brass, but the leather is almost always in too good of shape. To be sure more pics need to be shown..

The AJ Parker TZ/47 is the common sight for the 303...if graduated for 7.62 then it was marked according. The Parker Hale 5c is no better than the AJP...it's just personal perference. Sling looks reproduction..not hard to get the green patina in moist conditions. Nice set up. Ron

That rifle is such a hunk of crap. Don't shoot it cause it will probably blow up. Send that dangerous old relic to me so I can dispose of it properly.

I promise to destroy it and not to fondle and drool all over it.

Seriously... WOW that is a beautiful endfield.

I was actually planning on cutting down most of the wood, chopping a few inches off the barrel and then reaming the chamber out for a more modern cartridge since everyone knows the .303 is far inferior to anything else on the shelf at walmart.

Then I was gonna get rid of that 10-round "clip" because I'm pretty sure it's illegal, make that silly peep sight fit on my 10-22 and drill/tap for my nice new tasco scope.

lol

Don't forget to saw off the back of the buttstock to add a rubber recoil pad too.:D

Where did you find that PH5C sight?

That thing looks mint.

I'm also wondering if you can still load via stripper clips with one installed?

Parker Hale 5c's and AJ Parker TZ's in the condition shown are pricey. Don't know what folks are paying for these however I've seen junk for $250.00 and premium for $400.00. They do make the No4 a dream to shoot and I much prefer them over a scope. Ron

Yikes! That's a bit out of my comfort zone.

Too bad Williams doesn't make an Enfield Foolproof version with target knobs.

Well I have seen excellent condition PH5C sights go for around $250. Keep an eye out, you will find one. They usually come up on ebay. Dont settle for anything less than a complete sight.

In regards to the AJP being "better" than the PH5C, here is what I found on milsurps.

"The TZ4/47 does not pull the elevation screw into engagement in line with the barrel like the 5C (which leads to a twisting effect in engagement of the rising dovetail). Instead a strong spring loaded lever pushes the screw (and the rising dovetail) sideways out from the action. This maintains good bearings on both side of the rising dovetail and equalises wear.

Unlike the 5C you don't have to undo/retighten the lock screw to adjust the elevation setting. A better functioning and better built sight than the 5C in all respects"
