1949 sks

I suppose they could have replaced the barrel/ gas block and bayo with a later model and left the original receiver!? No never mind, still doesn't answer the dust cover latch without the hole!

I'm not completely convinced the dust cover has been renumbered. Would have to see it. I think thats a practice that started on this side of the pond.....fairly recently.

the renumbering of serial #'S ( force matching) was usually done during refurb, but I haven't seen one done on the dust cove serial#. I suppose they could have replaced the latch with a newer one and made it fit! It's everything else that doesn't really belong, either way it's a nice refurb and a cool conversation piece of what can and does happen at the refurb factories, methinks the boys were working late on a Friday night and the vodka got gotten into!!

I've seen a '49 cover on what was clearly a 56-58 letter series gun. If I recall, there was a thread about it somewhere here.

Edit - now that I think about it, there was a second one with a '49 cover on a later rifle that a quickly out of business "SKS Parts Canada" had listed.

I'd like to see a pic of the receiver cover SN beside the receiver SN. The fours don't look like the same font but it is hard to tell with the angle of the pic.

That's funny, I said the same thing but deleted my comment cuz I can't see a damn thing well on my phone.

Regardless of if it was a 49 so heavily refurbished that most of the 49 features are removed or a later 1950 sks with a matched 49 cover during refurbishment, it can in no way be considered a true 49 and the associated collector 49 SKS price. It is a franken gun. It is a shooter SKS. It will never be a collector rifle.
