I shot a green block of fir at 25 yards across the grain with a 195 grain Hornady in my Brno 8mm Mauser. The block was approximately 18 inches across,I got 10 inches of penetration and the retrieved bullet weighed 159.9 grains after I picked all the wood off of it.
I was quite surprised to get that much weight retention and it resembled the typical mushroom shape with the lead pushed back around the bullet shank.
Hornady........tough bullets.

I shot a small black bear with one out of my husky 8x57 last year, worked as advertised and no bullet to recover. Its my go to bullet in this chambering and works well in my rifle with reloader 15

wonder how'd they do out of an 8mm Mag @ 3200 f/s...ahhhhh I'll stick with TSX or maybe an Accubond :)

The TSX and Accubonds will probably hold together better in the 8 mag for sure. If the 195 Hornady was used in the 8 mag,I believe the critter would be just as dead but the bullet may come apart at short range with the faster velocities of the big 8.

I have had great luck accuracy wise with this round on the range in my K98's, though I have never hunted with it. I just wish it wasn't so much more expensive than the Hornady 150 and 170's.

Buzzards that come home to roost.

I just did a penetration test with my wife. Similar results.....

Well guys, the old Sarge up there in Yellowknife must have had a bit of a blonde moment. We all have them, and have to suffer the consequences of our little slips. Maybe it's those long winters!

From his other half's side, there might have been some comments like:
.......:)
"Watch where you're pointing that damned thing. It might be loaded."
or.....:D
"I sure hope he's shooting blanks"
or......;)
"It's that damned army drill cadence again. One.........two, three.....ONE. Then the movement is complete."
or....
"Better hit the target, or you'll get Maggies drawers"
or........:)
"Why use a Carbine when you should be using a Rifle?"
or.......
"Better use the sling for support"
or......:D
"Wish he'd quit using the single shot! Repeaters are much better!"
or......
"That thing sure isn't a six-shooter."
