Hello!
What type of rear sight did the 1950 Long Branch use? was it a push-button quick release slider or an elevation screw actuated one?

Got this one from a Québec's resident.
All matching, all blued, excellent mirror bore and chamber. :)
Now, I think the rear sight was replaced with an older F marked one with the screw actuated elevator.
Is the original sight a pushbutton one or is the other type correct, too?
I know some say the older type is better for shooting but should I put the right one back on for authenticity sake?

It should have a stamped Cmk3 sight with the little lever you depress on the right to slide the slider up and down. The F marked sight is British and not right...
That said, it's a far far better sight. Maybe find a Cmk3 sight to put on when you are being visited by some originality Nazis, otherwise enjoy the quality machined sight...

I have 4 Long Branch rifles with the LB marked Mk I sights on them, I like em even though they aren't right for the years in two cases.

Just got a message from the person who sold me the rifle: he's got the correct sight and offers me to exchange it or keep both sights for a small fee.:D
And I also got from him a very beautiful wood set with bands for a No.4Mk1 to restore my "sporterized" Faz. The only part I'll need is the band that sits around the knox form. Anyone know where I can get that one?

A small fee? I've bought new Cmk3 sights for about $10US plus shipping. If it's $20 or less grab it as you won't likely get one for less...make sure the lever isn't sticking out too far as they break...make sure it actually locks the slider in place.

Get both sights. The CMk.3 is the "correct" sight, a Mk.I is superior for range use. If you can, find one of the 8/53 adapters with fine windage adjustment for the Mk.I. Cdn. Mk.I sights, would have appeared only on early production rifles, soon replaced by the 300/600 Mk.II, which in turn was replaced by the slide adjustable CMk.3. Cdn. Mk.I sights are uncommon, the Savage version even more so.

As tiriaq said, check out finding an 8/53 for some really fun "fully adjustable" target shooting using the Mk1 sight.

Look in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12 for the 8/53 listed under A.J. Parker & Parker Hale Sights (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=104 It's covered in detail under pics 59-65 when you go to the main storage area.

~Angel~ bought hers from England since they actually still sell them, although I have seen them come up on eBay from time to time as well.

Yep, a 1950 should have a CMkIII. Pre 1949 should have a LB marked MkIII (not CMkIII) sight unless it's been arsenal refurbished.

Triplets!

Well, thanks guys!

I knew I would surely find an answer but I wasn't prepared for this!:D Tiriaq, that 8/53 attachment sure looks good! any hints on where I can hope to find such an item?
As for the fee for the sight, it is very small:$10.00. I'll keep the Mk.I for shooting and the CMk.3 strictly for showing.

Happily, I won't have to look for a rear retaining band: my seller just notified me that this particular part was included in the invoice.:)
As soon as I get my friendly seller's CGN nickname (our dealings took place outside this forum), I'm going to fire up three very positive deal ratings (one for each time I dealt with him).

Again, thanks, guys!
