1950 SKS question

Absoulutly correct but when they refurbed it. Instead of replacing the part they just cut it out medevil styles. Just like the way they did the"delicate" mag pinning for us.

Here,s a pic of my Tula refurb 1949. There grinding marks on the metal, pointed by the red arrow. You think could be the original plate cut to accept the blade bayonet? Beside the renumbered stock and the bayonet, all the parts are correct, even the barrel is original non-chrome.

The 1950 listed on Westrifle does not seem to have the blob.

I've only ever seen it on the 1950's that have all of the following features:

1) square gas block
2) early primitive receiver cover markings
3) non-chromed bore

I just assumed it was because the rifles were originally built with spike bayonets. I also assumed refurbed 1949's fitted with blade bayos have probably been modified similarly, but I've never seen one.

After the spring of 1950 they changed the design due to feed back from soilder's in field testing and also from manufactor's saving time and materail on the new design witch we are all a custom to today. Me personaly, I love the spike look but for hughing it around all day...
Umm sorry I'll take the blade.

And this gun fits all those criteria. http://www.westrifle.com/images781.html

Well, I just got my 1950 delivered and this one looks like a lot of parts were changed. Chromed barrel, late style bayonet lugs, non welded new stock ferrule, gas block, laminated stock, trigger guard with step and trigger arm, new bolt and rear sight assembly. Looks like a late 50's receiver too with rounded receiver front. Also has the two refurbs marks. It's unfired, no paint, good fit in stock and frankenpinned, but will make a great candidate for shooting and mods as there is little left in what was original for collection status.

I saw a late 1950 today at Lebaron where something had bee scrubbed off the sidewall of a 1950 and re-blued while still in Russia. All that could be still made out was a rectangle about 3/4" long. What was inside was obliterated.

Did some SKS's have special issue markings the Russians would want to remove before sale?
