1950 SKS with SPIKE BAYONET

I had a person stating that he had a 50 SKS with a spike bayonet. He sent me 4 pictures of his carbine. It had engraved date, hand stamped tula star, 90 degree gas port, eyelet latch pin and spike bayonet. He stated that is was refurbished. The stock was for a blade bayonet and the most telling item against the spike bayonet being original was the stock ferrule. On spike bayonet the pin holding the ferrule is on the bottom and for blade it is on top. Also it appeared that the bayonet was loose and had to be held to stock. It is still a excellent example of a early 50. I was really hoping that it was a original 50 with spike.

There has been a question if a laminate stock for a spike bayonet was altered from a later blade laminate stock. I am posting a picture that show that they differ in the design for fitting into stock ferrule. The laminate for a spike was definitely made solely for a spike. Look at the space between the bayonet groove and cleaning rod groove.

I have this carbine on a couple U.S.A. SKS forums. This is the only ONE documented with pictures. There is a lot of debate whether this was original or parts scrubbed. Slowly they are coming around that this could be original. The thing is that I need is other 50's with spike documented with pictures to help authenticate my carbine. The stock ferrule is one of the important clues that carbine was made for a spike. It also needs 90 degree gas port, engraved date (1950r), hand stamped tula star, eyelet latch pin and spring loaded firing pin.

I recently noticed that on the receiver that there is a hole drilled into it. The diameter of holes in (50) cover and receiver are the same and also later carbine cover lightening holes. Holes in the later receivers were larger and not as deep as on the 50. Pictures included Found out from another someone that it is not a lightening hole but rather a hole that houses the trigger tang latch. Live and learn.

As the only 50 with a spike bayonet recorded with pictures, I need your help. If you own or know of somebody who has one, either post some pictures or contact me. My 50 is a unicorn without additional proof that others were made and imported into Canada. It has to have all the aspects of a 49.
Thanks
Jim
