Three years ago today(July 02 2017), I was on the Westrifle website. In the side column it was listed 10 - 1949 SKs for $400.00. I went through the first nine(1949) and the last one was a engraved 1950. Not realizing that this one may be debateable, I purchased. Later on I asked a fellow CGN from Nova Scotia if he had one or had seen one. He replied no and phoned Westrifle asking that if they got another that he would purchase. Their reply " there is no such thing".

There has been much debate on the USA forum - SKS-Files forum.

What has been noted is that this rifle has all features of a 1949 but is engraved 1950.
The receiver although thought to be EM717 is actually БM717
In SKS-Files forum a new post - SKS Trials Article: Yushenko/m9130:info states that the transition from spike to bade was made in November 02 and that it would be switched until the supply was exhausted or 3 months. This would mean that until Feb. 02/1950 spikes could have been used on the SKS. Below is a partial excerpt from SKS Trials Article
However, at that moment there was no adopted knife blade bayonet for the SKS. Production started according to existing drawings which contained a spike bayonet. Four days after the adoption of the SKS, the Simonov design bureau (OKB-19) and factory No. 536 design bureau submitted their knife blade bayonet designs for adoption, but neither of them were accepted. A new bayonet design was created according to the advice of the group of Marshal of the Soviet Union veterans, it was accepted on November 2nd, 1949. Leftover spike blade bayonets were supposed to be used in production within the next 3 months, afterwards, production was supposed to be switched to the knife-blade bayonet.

If you have one or know of someone who has one, please post with pictures. You could have a one of a kind.

What about stocks for spike bayonets? Did they have a supply of them for 3 months?

Yes the first few months of the 1950 production used up the remaining 1949 style parts. I use to own a 1950 that had all the 1949 parts on it minus the bayonet, so it's likely a few spiked 1950s are out there.

Although uncommon, the 1950's SKS with all features of the 49 but with a blade bayonet can be found. The difference between the two are - Stock, stock ferrule(smaller and no V cut) and stock ferrule is bottom pinned on the spike bayonet. If you click on number on picture it will enlarge image.

If you think about it, how many production lines were there? Now, were all lines switched over to blades and was there one that was still on a spike bayonet. I have to agree with you that the possibility that blades were put on 1949 SKS. There have been several that have been seen, and I have actually had one. In the same token, I have only seen a 49 with a blade with a refurb marking. Pictures are KING. Please post.
