Can anyone give me an estimated value of this rifle. I would put it at 70-80% condition but I am no expert. As far as I can tell it is all original. I am looking to sell and have no idea what to ask.

Thanks in advance

Without knowing what the model of the rifle is (standard, Featherweight, Supergrade) it's hard to pinpoint it. I'd say that you're safe asking $1000 for it and being prepared to deal a bit. Obviously if it's a Supergrade then it's worth more but the 270 was a very common caliber and yours sounds like a shooter rather than a collector so the value is less. Still, a guy that likes Model 70s and wants one to hunt with without crying himself to sleep at night would probably give you about a grand for it. Posting some pics would probably help too as the experts can spot incorrect things or unusual features (they did a healthy custom shop business) fairly easily.

Good luck.

The Featherweight should have a 22" barrel and a schnable forend tip. The Supergrade would be engraved as such on the floorplate (I believe) and should sport a 24" barrel. Honestly, you need a copy of "The Rifleman's Rifle" by Roger Rule to sort out all the possibilities and particulars. Hopefully someone on here has a copy that they'd consult for you.

If you're sure it's a 1950 it's not a Featherweight, the Fwt being intro'd in '52 and they didn't have a Schnabel fore -ends. The later Fwt intro'd in the early 80's pioneered the Schnabel fore-end on the Fwt.

If it were a Supergrade you would already know because it would be designated as such on the floorplate, as well as having a different checkering pattern than the standard rifle and an ebony fore-end tip.

In 1950 it could have either the low comb butt stock or the Monte Carlo buttstock.

To me, the Monte Carlo is worth more, better for scope use.

In 1950 it left the factory with a steel buttplate. If it's still there it ups the value compared to one that's been chopped and a pad added.

Condition is everything and pics speak volumes.
