Hi all I know of a 1953 M52 Hungarian sniper (with original scope). Haven't seen it yet...if in at least VG-EX are these worth well over a grand all day long? Thanks in advance

As far as Moisin snipers go in general ....

Check the Russia - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/content.php?r=126-russia

There's some good articles and extensive photo montages on both an authentic 1944 Mosin-Nagant M91-30 Sniper Rifle (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?p=1177 and also a 1954 Mosin-Nagant M52 Hungarian Sniper Rifle (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?p=1178

There's also some fun video showing ~Angel~, Scott and Badger, shooting various sniper rifles from their personal collections at 400 meters. Scott is using his 1942 Russian 91/30 Mosin-Nagant 7.62x54r.

I got one kicking around... Should be worth a couple bucks more than a PU refurb I hope.

original scope ? most of these rifles were rebuilt by the importer . you would be lucky to get one that is original and matching ,most went on to the US market.
as for the price . personally I doubt that they would bring a grand in as new condition. post some pic of the rifle and lets see what the census is.

I sold mine in late 2008 on consignment at Ellwood Epps for $1200. It was all matching (except for the bolt) with the original matching Hungarian 02 marked scope. The bolt number matched except for the last digit. I think the rifle ended in a 6 and the bolt ended in a 8.

Most Hungarian snipers I have seen have a Russian scope mounted.

It also came with the leather scope caps, the original green canvas scope cover, and the original marked Hungarian canvas sling.

It took me hours to clean all the copper fouling out of the barrel using Sweet's 7.62 cleaner. Afterwards it looked almost new.

Someone on CGN probably remembers that rifle or maybe they were the person who bought it. The stock was quite reddish as I remember. I would recognize mine if I saw it again.

I owned an all original matching unit missing the scope. The bore was badly rusted from corrosive and lack of cleaning. Sold it for 700 bucks. I know of another all original and matching including the scope but it isn't for sale. Shoots really nice.

I've never seen a Hungarian sniper rebuilt by the importer? The few I've seen were always in top condition and untouched.

I have an all matching one too, not dicked or dinked with either.

What does an importer rebuild look like? What did they do to it? Mismatched? Humped?

I had one, but the bore was dark and pooched. No way you were cleaning that up.

I saw one at a gun show 2 weeks ago and it too had a bad bore.

If you ever find one with a minty bore, that will be a good day.

As for value...I personally doubt anyone will pay more for one than a Russian refurb, even though they are rare.
