I was just cleaning the gas tube on one of my SKSs when I noticed a hole where it shouldn't be. Right where the large and small tubes marry up.
It's not rust. It looks like a badly done file job as part of the refurb process.
It's in a place that should shouldn't cause a reduction in gas pressure on the return rod or cause a return rod jam.
But it scares the hell out of me anyway. Is it a big deal to be put aside never to be used again or just ignore it?
Thanks for the help,
Ted

Its not a big deal but I would find someone to braise it for you. That hole won't interfere with the rifle operation, its on the opposite side of the gas pressure.

Somes of my SKS's have this too and others dont. Its just a manufacturing defect if i can say but nothing to worry about, that cant cause any problems at all.

There was a thread about it a while ago, many have a hole there, it's on the back end of the tube, makes no difference to the function, just make another toast to sergei for making you a fine rifle and shoot on.

I thought that this hole is in there by design, something for letting air back in tube for example or let air out after the rod passes holes on the sides.
