1955 Colt Commander Value

I paid $600 for this exact year/model here on CGN, advertised in excellent condition. (When I got it the chamber and barrel were badly pitted though:().

It looks like it has been fired little, if at all.

If it is a Lightweight Commander, go over the frame with a magnifying glass, Why? They were prone to frame cracks but the one in the photo doesn't look like it was shot enough to have a cracked frame. Regards, Richard:)

Clearer pics would be nice.

And confirmation if it is a lightweight [alloy frame] or combat [steel frame] commander.

If it's a 1953 vintage commander it would've originally had grips like this:

I am the worst photographer that I know, sorry.

It does not have the original grips, just the Pachmyr unfortunately.

The magazine looks original. I think it's steel due to the weight but not sure.

I don't see any cracks, even with the magnifying glass.

Most of those original grips warped over time if left anywhere near a heat source.

Are you thinking of buying or selling?

Actually, what I heard about those original Colt grips was that they shrunk over time and that's what distored them.

The set I have in the pic I posted are in pristine condition & have not shrunk. However, they are not for sale [at any price].

All those other guys are out to lunch, I will go $300.oo and a case of beer:dancingbanana:
If you want I could look it up in the new blue book , but not if you take my offer

Okay, your American cousin confesses. Yes, I own a Lightweight Commander and yes, I find mine to pretty to carry. Most old time pistol packers loved to carry one of these. Regards, Richard:)

Beer offer

Marshall-It depends on what brand you are offering. Blue Book value would be appreciated.

Strangeday-call me, the .22 story needs explaining; I thought the Smith is a better deal than the Taurus. And thanks for the generous offer-I will consider it over eggplant.

I'm not sure why I bought this except that since it was in such beautiful condition I couldn't resist it.

Richard, those are some pretty grips you have on your piece.

They will warp/shrink if taken off the gun, so it's best to keep them ON the gun!:)

Every thing has a price!;)

What ever kind you like,I myself am a scotch man.
The serial number should have a LW suffix
I would be a alloy frame
blue book shows from 450. to 1200 for 9mm
600 to 1400 for 38super /45acp
those ate for 60% comdition to 100 % condition
