The chinese sks from marstar are of this eraI like the longer barrel-lug with screw-on barrel and the milled trigger-guard that the 1955 to 1964 Chinese SKS-types offer. Does anyone know of a place that sells SKSs in that time frame?
Thanks.
I called Marstar and was told that they are of late era and all have pinned barrels. But maybe the person I talked to was not up on the latest.

If you click on the above link, it will take you to Marstar's SKS page with all the information about it. If you scroll down, it says "They featured a milled receiver and a screw-in barrel." Don't know what the heck that guy is talking about.
These are the “real thing” they are military production SKS rifles, manufactured in the early 1960s for the Chinese armed forces and placed in long term storage, where they remained until Marstar purchased them a few months ago.
These rifles should not be confused with previous offerings in the market of Chinese civilian versions.
These Chinese military rifles have heavier stocks than their “civilian” counterparts,
they feature machined receivers and chromed lined barrels....
IN SHORT THESE RIFLES ARE: True military models.... They are brand new.... They do feature ALL matching numbers....
They are NOT refurbished.... They are NOT reconditioned.... They are NOT arsenal re-manufactured....
Of course the magazine capacity has been tastefully reduced to five rounds in accordance with Canadian law.
No ugly welds, no unattractive added parts in the magazine.
There seems to be a great deal of confusion regarding the Chinese military SKS rifles that we are offering....
A brief history of these rifles....
Early Chinese manufactured SKS rifles were stamped with a “26" inside a triangle, no Chinese characters are on the receiver.
They featured a milled receiver and a screw-in barrel.
These early production rifles were built in the only Soviet supervised arsenal located at the Jianshe armory.

7. SECONDARY IDENTIFICATION. Production classification.
China has been building SKS for a very long time, too long to have just two classes like we did with the Russian SKS. It was more appropriate that we use three: early, mid and late production classes.
The period for these production classes are rough estimates. I can't expect with that many factories involved to do things in unison, these factories were spread throught out the country and some of them were in remote areas. I am confident with the period for the early production class and that is because it was based on one factory, factory 26.
The quickest way we can determine this is to look at the area where the barrel meets the receiver.

from the left:
Early production-long barrel lug (1956 - part1965).
mid production- short barrel lug (part1965 - 1980). Typo I believe, should say 1970
late production- no lug, pinned barrel (70s - present).
First thing there is no such thing as a 1955 SKS56.
From what I've seen of the recent Chi-Com SKS56 offerings is that the 1.5 million numbered ones are screwed in barrels, and the 1.6 million ones are pinned. The pinned barrels tend to be more accurate.
FEnceline. Thanks for the photo of the barrel lugs. It's a great bit of imfo.
I bought a $75 special from Marstar. It has a short barrel lug (not pinned) and a milled trigger block.
I think it's a fantastic deal and I'm very happy with it. shot 300 rounds through it already (2 weeks)
Factories used different serial numbering systems. The only factory you can use the serial number for dating is the Jianshe Factory. 1.6 million would be a Jianshe rifle made in the 16 year of production, ie 16 plus 56 = 72. Pinned barrels came into existance in the 70s.
If your rifle has a pinned barrel, and it is not from Jianshe, then that would be a clue (among others) to determine what generation of Type 56 you have, but it would be hard if not impossible to narrow it down to a year.
Not quite a /26\ with a serial number in the 1.6 million range would be a 1957, to be a 1972 manufacture would be a 16 million serial number. These new SKS56 are from Factories /306\,/625\,/626\not /26\
