Sks-files dot com has done a really good job at filtering through a lot of the speculation and adding some credence to their theories. They have caused a lot of butt hurt for some that have larger collections based on theories that are now largely debunked.

Like the DDR guns.

Not sure why the sks was manufactured right into 1980. I admit it's a great rifle, I prefer it to a m-16.

Because China felt they had a use for it. Until the first Sino Vietnam war where it was shown to be out matched. Then they designed the type 81 as a stop gap. It was used longer than intended as well.
