1970s model 94 30-30 info

Hey so a sweet lookin model 94 popped up , 1970s the ad says with serial 477569X .... wondering what the gist was with this Era of rifles??
he wants $650 for it.... i would Sell a Whelen for this i rekon :)

Looks like it was made in '79. My brother has one that he bought new in '72 and it's been a good gun for him. The stock on his is stained birch, not walnut, and the receiver is some sort of alloy that won't take a reblueing. Functionally it's fine.

Recoil pad is an add-on to the rifle in the ad. It's missing the plug screws for the peep sight, but that's no big deal. Looks to have been carried a lot, but I don't see any signs of abuse.

I'm not a fan of the band style swivel stud on a thin wall magazine tube, if it was me, I'd drill and tap the barrel band and put the swivel stud there. I think I'd fill the holes on the side of the receiver with a gallows style peep sight and swap out the front bead with a tall rectangular post. The purpose of the recoil pad was most likely to lengthen the LOP.
