1970s Steyr SSG awesomeness Match and Sport and an Accuracy International 10X42 scope

I got one of these aluminum upgrades from Nordic recently; it's not a direct copy of the original piece, and it uses AICS-pattern magazines rather than the original Steyr plastic ones.

jjohnwm,

Just to make sure that we are talking about the same thing, I must tell you that there is - now - on the market ALUMINUM SSG 69 replacement Triggerguard/Mag Wells that are an exact copy of the original plastic Steyr Mannlicher parts. They are not the same - not at all - as the replacement Styria Arms STEEL SSG 69 Triggerguard/Mag Wells with AICS-pattern magazines sold in Canada.

Best thing to do for you would be to get in touch with Dosing himself to get some more information. Or me, but first try to get in touch with Dosing.

So now, we have two choices. Good !

I did not know that! I was indeed mistakenly referring to the Styria Arms steel version; in fact as I pressed the submit button I was wondering how I had become confused about the materials (steel vs. aluminum). The Styria part includes a couple of replacement trigger springs to adjust the pull, and accepts several different types of AICS configuration mags. For me, having already cracked one expensive original plastic Steyr magazine, the magazine switch is a no-brainer. But if an owner happens to have a significant investment in the admittedly very cool Steyr rotary magazines, an exact copy of the original guard would certainly have its appeal.

Having now SSG'd three coyotes this winter with my Steyr/Styria/MDT frankengun, I am a happy camper and don't plan on further changes to the rifle. :)

miedler-waffen.at sells this one, like I say a little googling will bring up other aluminum ones from the UK (which are the ones I bought) but I will leave it up to others to track them down, since I havent actually gotten mine yet.

There are other items out there to help with magwell cracking, like this accurizer
seidler-waffen.at/buechsenmacherei/steyr-accurizer.html

not complicated but should help in older units.

The AICs adapter can be bought through Nordic, I like the idea of AICS mags, but will be honest in my shallowness in saying I think the Styria ones are fugly. Awful, but ya.

The Aluminum repops are also available in single and double trigger variants.

Just waiting for someone to edm some mag bodies, or better yet fab up some latch and spring kits, since apparently Steyr will not sell them, only complete magazines. That said, I bout two mags with broken latch parts, one a 10 rounder, and the other a five. The five bacame a parts mag, the 10 was glued together, like I said, superglue bonds these old plastics perfectly.

Well, some three months ago, I bought two Aluminum SSG 69 Triggerguard/Mag Wells from the UK. They are v-e-r-y well made. They ring like forged and hardened steel.

Almost the same color as the SSG 69 receivers - not black. Really nice !

With the Aluminum Triggerguard/Mag Wells that are anodized, we have a choice of colors.

Big Bear,

Not bad, not bad at all, as in excellent ! About 0.7 MOA as I can see from the picture, maybe less. Ten (10) shots. Not three, not five, TEN shots. The SSG 69 rifles are only factory rifles and they are not particularly precise. Really ? In my book, 0.7 MOA at 300 hundred yards IS precision ! I have seen one SSG 69 P1 grouping 1 MOA at 600 hundred yards, prone no bipod - and the owner of the rifle told me that his rifle was performing ... as usual.

By the way, I can see that your have a Styria Triggerguard/Mag Well and AICS Magazine. Do you like it ? They seem to be very rugged. May I ask you how much your rifle weight as it is in the picture (rifle empty, scope and rings, rail, bipod) ?

Nice rifle but people say that I have a small bias towards the Steyr Mannlicher SSG 69 rifles which is not true. Of course ...

I love the Styria set up, very solid. I'll have to weigh the set up when I remember to bring a scale home from work, don't like the damn things around, (big bear ain't no lightweight, I'm afraid) but it is much lighter than my AI/AT. Still have love for my green machine, SSG69. It's very light so I haven't given it the Styria upgrade.I use it as my big hunt back up rifle , I get about 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100yds with Nosler Accubond 180gr reloads on a good day.

It is interesting the steyr made 10 round magazines and Sig Sauer didn't for their 200/202 Hunter/Target series rifles. I have a new hunter/ Target in 308
They made a 10 round magazine for the Sauer 205 rifle I still have a few of these in new condition
I asked Sauer, and they said the large capacity 200/202 magazines were prohibited in Europe
So, they didn't make any, even for America
