The Winchester white boxes work great in mine. I found 3 boxes today for $16 a box. Only $2 more a box than the 22 mag ammo I bought today

Model 1881 in 45-70, made in 1885. The buttstock is a replacement, but the shorter 24" barrel is factory. I've put a couple rounds through her - due to the weight and fact you can only use bp level loads through it, recoil was near non-existant.
