I just bought a 1973 ruger single six 22LR/22Mag revolver and when I open the loading gate to load bullets the cylinder won't rotate unless I pull the trigger back about 1/8" . does anyone know if this is correct on this model? There is no half #### on this model

My 1979 New mod single six rotates with loading gate open without half cocking hammer . I would suspect you have the early model . Dose your hammer hit a transfer bar (new mod) or the cartridge .(old Mod) . There is a safety recall on the old ones

I have a 1970 built model, it requires 2 clicks to rotate cylinder (half ####). I believe the "new model" 2 frame screws started in
'73, and with that the hammer away from the cartridge.

The early Rugers where just like the old Colts. hammer back to second click, open gate, load one, skip one. load four. Pull hammer back all the way and lower it down on the empty chamber. Theses guns had no transfer bar so so not load it with 6 rounds unless you are going to fire right away!!

Ruger will update your old mod single six (safety recall ) for free & give you the original parts back if you want . Can be done in Canada

I for one do not consider this "upgrade" an improvement. The unaltered 3 screw models are smoother, and the necessity of carrying the gun with an empty chamber under the hammer is not such a handicap. I carried mine on my ATC, and I was not bothered by the fact that it was a five shooter.

Never heard of them giving the parts back before. Seems like something that would not fly past the company lawyers very well.

I've heard lots of guys say that they wished they had not had the "upgrade" done, though. The unmodified ones were asking a premium at one time, IIRC.

I've got a first gen flat top .44 mag, got the update done, got the old parts back. The trigger pull went from about a pound to 20 pounds,,,, soooo the old parts went back in, beautiful lite trigger. This gun was one of the first run and therefore they give the old parts back to stay with the gun.

They tell you on their website that they will return your original parts for coolector's purposes. The only cost to the customer is the shipping to their factory.

I have an original Single Six 1967 light frame and the hammer does lock back to allow the rotation the cylinder. It is unmodified. The instruction manual state also that it should.

The conversion is to install a safety transfer bar like the new gun. It does not change the operation of the gun and it is not a fix for the hammer notch problem.
