An old friend gave me a 1973 Winchester model 70 that is new, never had a round fired , It is in 308 more than what I need, It is the heavy barrel, Target/Varmint model with hand stop, The rifle is in excellent condition, I would like to sell it , does any one know what it might be worth? Thanks Dan.

if it is in great shape as you say get it confirmed by a good gunsmith and find the same model today and price it slightly less by a $50 or 100 and you will sell it. If people took the time to trace the serial number of the guns they are buying in gun shops they would be shocked at when that gun was actually made in some cases they are buying a 5 - 10 or more year old gun but paying top dollar, cause it has the stickers and store tags on them and they have not been fired.so they assume that it has been just built.

i think older guns that are unfired are often worth more than their new version.

i bought a 1981 colt 1911 combat government unfired, i didn't pay top dollar for it but they don't make em like that anymore, and they only made the combat government for 3 years

i would pay more for that than i would a new gun

my dad also just bought a browning superposed 12 gauge overunder made in the early 70's when they were still made in Belgium also unfired, he payed about the same as a new one is worth but i think its a nicer gun

there is defiantly a good market for new old guns,

mod 70

I just purchased something similar a 1976 mod 70 30-06 with the oringal box
of imperial shells last fired in 1979 and there is still about 6 rounds in the box. A older guy I worked with had it since new I purchased it for $450.00.

Pushfeed M70's are comparable in price to a rem 700bdl of the same vintage. New M70's go for $725ish, and have the controlled round feed action that most people buy M70's for. In NEW condition, I'd say its worth $600 -$650, because its the HB varmint version. but since you got it for nothing, why not keep it?
