I recently acquired the a marlin 336a (1975 vintage) It has a 24” barrel and a 2/3 length mag tube. It’s missing the front sight cover, has no rear sight and has some other minor cosmetic issues. I was thinking of getting it cut to 18” and recrowned. Thoughts? It’s not really a collector gun, I’d just like it to be a bit shorter.

Some people really prefer the shorter length magtube models, maybe try your luck with a trade add looking for someone that has the shorter barrel with full length magtube?
Other then that, go for it! 18 1/2" would be a nice length right between a Trapper and the Typical 20" Carbine.
