1986 Colt AR15

My friend has a1986 Colt AR15 he bought new and has only ever put about a hundred rounds through it. It has sat in a case for near 25 years. I may buy it from him and I'm looking for an honest value as I am a pistol guy not a rifle guy. Any help? No pic yet i believe medium length barrel. All pristine.

If it was me I'd buy it but that's because the rifle I was first issued was a 86 C7. Also year I was born. Still got that serial number burned in my brain.

I can't remember the number of my current rifle, but I still remember my original C7 87AA13766.

I looked it up, my A2 is built on a 91 receiver.

Mine was 86AA04180. That number and my service number, don't think I'll ever forget it, even though I'm not enlisted anymore.

I don't think so but I'm not a 100% sure. C7 is a m16 variant I know that.

If the gun was actually made in 1986 it won't be an SP1, most likely an AR15A2 Sporter or a Delta HBar. The Delta HBar would definitely be the more desireable to me, I think they also fetch something of a price premium.

The AR15 has been standard issue to Canadian troops for 25 years. The prototypes and a few of the first delivered rifles were Colts, the bulk of the rifles were made by a Colt licensee that has since been bought by Colt. Any way you slice it, they don't fall far from the Colt tree.

I always brain dumped the old one when I was issued a new one. Not enough room in this noggin to remember more than a couple of numbers at a time. But to this day I know my SIN, SN, DL# and emloyee# without having to look them up.

The OP said the rifle was mid-length. If I'm not mistaken, Delta HBAR models were 20" rifle length barrels only.

My "guess" is that it's a Sporter Lightweight.

C7's were manufactured by Diemaco, which was purchased by Colt in 2005. But they were initially subcontracted (thru Colt I think) to provide the DND with C7's back in the 80's.

91AA00772 was my first rifle. And yeah, no way in Hell I could ever forget my service number! They are both seared into my brain.
