Picked up a Ruger M77 Tang safety chambered in 338 win mag this past weekend at a gun show. According to rugers website it was made in either 1988 or 1989 with the first 3 numbers in the serial # being 771. Blueing is in great shape, stock has a few knicks in it but nothing serious, doesnt appear to have many round though it. Just wondering what the value of this rifle is, as I was told these rifles chambered in 338 WM are harder to come across then other calibers, not sure if its true or not as I dont know much about rugers.

Without seeing a picture but going by your description, valued @ $600 on the high side and as low as $475.
Not particularly rare just a damned good hunting rifle in a great cartridge for big game in general.

thy are a great big game rig .thy did make a lot of them so not rare .,, I have seen them from 400 to 600$ .D

Thanks for the info, I didnt really think they were rare as such, after all 338 WM is a pretty popular caliber. I just went and shot it with some 225gr federal soft point shells I had and it printed an impressive group of 0.96" @ 100 yards off the lead sled so its a shooter for sure.

you are going to love it the first time you put one of them slugs in a critter ,,thy are one of my favorite rifles ,enjoy Dutch

Like others have said, between 400 & 600 bucks depending on condition. Pics needed to make a decent valuation.

The M77's from those years were beauty. If the bore, chamber and crown check out fine, then there's no worries on refinishing the stock. A nice, low mileage restored one in .338 could fetch $700 easy enough. Have fun with the beasty, they shoot great.:)
