Well the 9 people (5 FO and 4 FF) that showed up to shoot had a great time on Saturday. Three 338's, 1 6/250 and the rest were 308's. We were hoping for more shooters but we made it work and everyone had a great time. Talked to the Pres. of the SPRA also on Saturday night after the match and this will be an annual match for the SPRA. We will probably modify it based on some thing we learned on this one so look again for this match to be posted in advance next year. We may change the format some with some pairs shooting to start with followed by group/score at a yardage (less time needed more sighter's), change from money payouts to gift certificate payouts, use a 3/6/9 rules for payouts and trophies, and finally use paid markers. This would cut the time need for the matches greatly and make it even more enjoyable for everyone.
The weather for the match was good compared to the last few weeks, IE., not raining, cloudy with sunny breaks, followed by cloudy periods, temps starting at 15C and rising to 26C, wind mostly S or SE (switching fast) at 11 to 28 Km/h. But I will say, it was one of the more challenging days this year for me on this range, fast fishtailing south switches for most of the match today.
It was a wee bit long pulling targets and all, but we shot the entire program all on Saturday, the group/score side string shooting and the 1/2 moa 2+15 pairs shooting Palma match. Started a little late (8:30 instead of 8:00 start, holding back for more who said they may come to show and all) and finally came off the 1000 firing point around 18:30 or so. The group portion went really fast and smooth I thought and we were done around 10:30 or 11:00, broke for lunch and continued the Palma at 1:00.

As you can see, Nokomis has some tough variable, fast switching, fish tailing winds mixed with times were it will switch to a high value left/right by swinging more out of the east (like today) or west. We had some ranges with only 2 moa of wind and others with 7 moa changes (easier to see this changes plotting or with a plot-o-matic of ez-graf) and that is with fast moving high BC bullets. You can just about double these values for a 308 with the 155g bullets as in FF.
Hope to see a ton of guys out for the final match of the year at the SPRA, the PPRA matches and bring bug spray eh!!
Update: I just did some checking and I found out that this match and targets used was actually harder than in the US! We were using a DCRA 300M target at 600 yds with a 2.75" V bull and a 5.5" 5 ring, where the US MR-1FC 600 yd target has a 3" X ring and a 6" 10 ring. So much for apples to apples eh! But checking the US 600 yd BR target, now that one is small, x ring 1.2" 10 ring 2.8" and the US BR 1000 yd is 3" for the x and 7" for the 10 ring!
