1st AR, Optic Choices?

Too big and heavy! So is the Elcan. And $700 to $2000+ is a big jump!

If someone came out with a quality Micro sized quick switch 1-4/6X RDS, I'll be on it like fleas on a camel!

trijicon makes the compact acogs, very light, ver rugged, 3x, model:ta-33
i bought one for my dpms g2, 308 chevron reticle but they make them for 556 of course, its really awesome
https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product2.php?id=ACOG&mid=3 x 30

i might actually get another one in 556 and try it out for my tavor or my mk12

if you want me to pick one up for you let me know

I am also looking at the Bushnell AR 1X4 . They have a 25% mail in rebate this month. Any feed back on them? They seem to have two one with a lever to make quick adjust to the power and one without . Is the lever worth the extra bucks?

Yes the lever and illumination are worth the extra, and the reticle is finer which helps on distance shooting. Excellent optic for the price.

I don't want that damned lever, BUT the one without the lever has a different reticle. The reticle is what makes it worth the extra money IMO (I think it's much better than the other BDC reticle - the one that looks kind of like a mil-dot).

Reticle is REALLY thick. If shooting prone or from a rest or position shooting at IPSC targets at 100m or beyond the limitations are 3MOA. Adde the 3moa to your rifle's accuracy spec of 3-5 and a 5" 10 round group becomes the norm. Look at the reticle subtensions in bushnell's site and it will bear that out. I ran the non PCL version you are looking at for 2 years and it was great, providing you know ahead of time what it can and cannot do.
After using a few optics, I bought what I really wanted STac 1-7 from Sightron and my groups at all ranges improved mainly from better clarity and reticle thickness not getting in the way.

I also ran a V Strike Eagle. Junk. The worst fisheye ever at 1x. Blurry, and poor tracking. The Bushnell was better or a Vtex 1-4x tcm

YMMV
