I have been frustrated by my lack of success deer hunting this year so I thought I give it a break and change things up a bit…Getting tired of sitting in one spot for long periods of time without putting a deer in the freezer, so I decided I would try something different and go coyote hunting this morning…I got to the farm just before daybreak, got changed at the truck, double checked my gear and off I went...I walked down a corn field edge row, (corn still up) made my way to the field that is boarded by bush and a small swamp in the back...I took a tree line down to about 150 yds form the swamp area and set up the caller about 60 yds from me in the middle of the field....The caller didn't play more than 1 minute before this coyote comes out from my tree line (my right) about 80 yds down….He came in trotting to the decoy/caller....I have a Bushnell 4x12 3200 scope and had the scope on 8x (should have had it on 4x) all I saw was fur, tried to stop him by making baa baa sounds but he was fixated on the decoy/call....So as he continues to trot, I let a round out of my Steven’s 223 and down he went...It looked like he was trying to get up so I let him have another one...In the end the second round was not needed. The first one hit its mark really well, but I have heard of many stories of coyotes getting up and running after the first shot only to be lost....I did not want to take that chance....I stayed and let the caller finish its sequence (30 mins) hoping for another to show up but no luck...I took some self photo's and decided I better go home and let the wife do the shopping she was hoping to do today.....What a great day, it worked out just great…..
