1st custom rifle - final decisions needed

I’d lean 7. I like the bullet selection, and less recoil doesn’t hurt either.

I agree with your bullet selection statement, but there are very few bullets of any caliber to choose from in Canada these days.

Well I thought I had this figured out until I tried to find brass. I was going to do a 7 saum but cant find brass anywhere. So I considered a 6.5 PRC...cant find brass anywhere either.

I've been out of the reloading game for a bit. How bad is out there for brass?

How long are you guys waiting for dies and Brass these days.

Little discouraging to have a new rifle build but nothing to shoot .

I'd try to find brass BEFORE deciding on the chamber.

Of all the cartridges in the short mag 6.5mm, 270, 7mm range, I think the 6.5 prc will be the easiest to find brass for. I went that way with my last build and it was determined by Lapua offering brass…I got 200 from Prophet River.

6.5 PRC brass pops up on the EE and in stores more often than 7 Saum.
Bullets not so much, unless your strictly looking for target bullets.

Agreed. Everyday I like others no doubt, go through sponsor sites and others looking for non Match stuff in three different Cals. All that can be found are Match, Hybrid etc..

Factory ammo offerings are not much better either.. alot of 6.5 Needmore Match stuff or "Long Range" stuff on the shelves, but little for typical hunting offerings locally.

Got myself a Proof Sendro Light in .284 with a 1 in 8.4 twist @ 22". It was the piece of the puzzle. I almost went 6.5 PRC but I just really like the bullet selection of the 7mm's for what I want to hunt with it.

Super excited to put together my 1st custom. Thanks for all the suggestions and posts...I read them all.

Right on that will be an awesome build, looking forward to seeing it finished, so 7 SAUM ?

For me, I would go 300 WSM or if you can still get good SAUM brass 300 SAUM. Throat for 180gr Partitions. Since a hunting rifle it does not get shot a lot so I find when the crosshairs on a animal and I pull the trigger, recoil is non existant. Just what I would choose.

After some delays on my part and the Gunsmiths, both well communicated...she's home.

Gary Flach did my build, great guy to talk to and explain things as this was my 1st full custom.

Manner's EH1 - barrel channel opened up and bedded
Trigger Tech Special - set to 2.5 pounds
Proof Carbon Barrel @ 22" 1-8.4 twist, with custom lightweight muzzle brake and threaded cap protector
Chambered in 7 Saum
Defiance Machine Anti with Rail - Gunkote coating
Zeiss Ultralight 30mm 1913 Mil Spec Rings
Leupold VX5HD 3-15x44 ( for now)

I started questioning my choice of building a 7 saum after everything was shipped out...almost went with a 300 wsm. Really happy I stayed with the 7 Saum especially now the final build weight. It should be right at 7.75 pds scoped.

Very happy on how it turned out!
