Im currently researching which 1st rifle I should purchase within semi auto/bolt action, larger calibre than .22.

I have experience with pellet guns, and 22's, some minor shotgun skeet shoots. I've been to the range and fired the usual shotgun,CXstorm,9mm,tommy-gun.

I'am looking to buy a best bang for your buck type deal (incl cheap bullets), and I find myself drawn between an Sks or the AIA MK NO.4 lee enfield bolt action. mostly leaning towards the Enfield due to the package deal at marstar. I want to target practice and range shoot maybe pick up hunting when a buddy who's been has the time.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated

If you want a cheapish but versatile bolt action gun for target shooting and possibly hunting, look at the Stevens 200. The stock is cheap, but the action is very good. If you choose, you can modify or just replace the stock to suit your needs, and add the scope your shooting style requires.

The SKS is an excellent play gun, as the ammo is cheap. For hunting, it can be used with commercial ammo. Some will feel the power isn't sufficient for more than deer at closer ranges, and the gun is a tad heavy for hunting, especially if you add a scope and mount.

The AIA guns look excellent, but are perhaps a bit more geared for target than hunting. They are also sometimes hard to get at the manufacturer appears to be slow filling orders.

For an accurate out of the box cheap rifle I would go with the Stevens 200 and you will have money left over to buy a nice scope!
I bought a Steven 200 in .223 and added a SAV-2 trigger and was reaching out and hitting the target at 500yrds......
 
I bought a cheap SKS to play around with because the gun can be had for a good price and the surplus ammo is at least affordable. I never have, but many members on here say they have used their SKS for hunting.
 
When I commented to a guy in Newfoundland that his SKS was rather underpowered for moose, he responded with, "Tell that to a dozen dead moose."
 
With a 303 the ammo is pretty expensive unless you reload. 223 can be had relatively cheap and 7.63x39 is as cost effective as it gets. If you are still looking at a 303 there are plenty of sporters here on the EE and some are even at a realistic price. It is kind of hard to beat Marstars price on the Chinese SKS's though.
