1st Handgun Recommendations - Competition Ready?

Walther PDP may be promising as well.

On that note, does anyone have enough knowledge about the PDP to know whether it'd be a great competition pistol? The current reviews are that the trigger is just as good if not better than the PPQ and thus one of the best triggers for a striker-fired pistol on the current market. And considering the fact that the PDP is cheaper than almost all other optic-ready pistols (at least where I am) it seems like a really good first handgun and one that can transition into a competition pistol eventually. Any thoughts guys?

Amazing. I really appreciate that. When this Covid thing slows down, I will take you up on that offer.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I'm really excited to get shooting!
I would most definitely take trailskinpat up on that offer, you will get to try out just about every type of semi auto you may be interested in, optic and irons etc :)
There really is no substitute for actually holding and shooting different handguns, makes narrowing down the search much easier!

If you live in Victoria you should not have to take a ferry ride any where to look and handle some handguns.Go to Island Outfitters or Pullens and have a feel.Good bunch and quite helpful when you explain what you want to do.My vote for a new shooter is the CZ Shadow 1 or 2 then into the real meal deal the 1911.Good luck.

I guarantee that the sfp9 will feel the best in your hand ergonomically at least. Follow by the Walther. But don’t take my word for it. I sold both and bought a Dan Wesson in the lords calibre.

Once you buy a CZ, you will want a Glock.

Can't go wrong with a CZ. I shoot competition recreationally and so so with two CZ clones; an IWI Jericho .40, and a NZ85B 9mm. Nobody laughes. I shoot mainly PPC and these pistols and my GP100 revolver allow me to shoot and be competative in the production class and Service Pistol class. I have been shooting the revolver a bit more lately as I am old, and I don't have to crawl around picking up brass. LOL. I have also shot Tanfos, CZs and one Sphinx. Seems you can't go wrong with CZ and their clones.
