1st ipsc, 3 months after LASIK = nope, will try again in 3-6 months

The targets appeared crystal clear, clearer than I have ever seen targets before, BUT I had a really hard time bringing back the focus to the sights. In fact, I shot the whole Wentworth match never ONCE seeing my sights in focus... It's amazing I only had 2 mikes, but the number of Cs and Ds was scary...

I'll try again in 3-4 months, and if the situation doesn't improve, bye-bye production: I'll put a little red hot on my baby eagle :)

would you say you just tried shooting too soon after the procedure or has the procedure had an affect on your ability to focus?

Or is this related to age?

I'm contemplating getting my eyes zapped but I don't want to lose depth perception and ability to focus.

Wentworth was a fun match though.
 
Hope it clears up for you, three months is still pretty soon.

I have bad eyes and astigmatism, I have discussed LASIK several times with my eye doctor and he is suggesting the 'if it ain't broke...' approach. Contacts work really well for me and he regularly tweaks them to get the best vision I can, he said he would feel really bad if my eyes got messed up from surgery. However now that my near vision is shifting I am starting to look more seriously at it.

I had my eyes done by Laser back in 98, best money ever spent. I was specifically told not to do Lasik, even though the doctor did both, due to my shooting.
Hope you eyes get better dude, have you been doing any eye exercises?
 
Don't worry there is a simple solution to the problem. I know, as I too was that soldier.

You get a pair of shooting glasses made as follows. The lens in the master eye is adjusted to give a clear picture of the front sight and the other lens is just a regular safety glass.

When you put the glasses on you will fell like you have a had a few beers but within a few minutes the inboard computer will kick in and your vision will return to normal. With this approach you will soon see things as good as you ever did. It will work better still if you can keep your weak eye partially open when you shoot.

As I said, I too was that soldier and I have been shooting very well for a number of years like this, post laser surgery.

Sadly, it is only nature that is catching up and with the above approach is a very easy and inexpensive fix for your problem.

The problem is that it's now taking a LONG time for me to focus on things close by. I CAN do it, I can read fine, but it takes a while, too long for shooting times. For example, in the morning when I wake up, I can't read my watch, I need a long time before I can focus in on it. So my eyes are focusing like a really old digital camera, where it'd go back and forth a few times before finally settling down on the right distance... I think it deals with my brain/eyes not being used to seeing so well, so the whole focusing mechanism gets a little freaked out :)

I'll talk to an eye specialist, see what if anything I can do...

But I did like seeing the targets very clearly... Worst case scenario I'll get a very low/small red DOT ( :) ) on it, and shoot "Open", but I think that my stock baby eagle with a red dot will be more "production" than some of the Tanfoglios and Shadows :) :)
 
Boy how it works out for yeah,sure hate to lose any eyesight.

I know Barney C at Burlington had laser a few years back, apparently he was getting pretty bad, and after he was back to shooting snake eyes, one patch shots. Still slow, but man can he shoot.
 
When I had LASIK surgery, I initially found it a bit difficult to get a clear sight picture after I started shooting again, but it improved gradually over time. I think it's a case of your eyes having to "retrain" themselves.

I'm thinking about doing it at this point, Why were you told to go another direction & why did you choose the direction you did?
And what are these eye exercises?

you should go back to your doctor,...halo's are normal as is dryness; which can lead to blurred vision. Everyone's results vary, and although I had little regression, had one touchup and I have had no issues for focusing even days to weeks after the sugery.
 
Well, I found out what happened... The LASIK procedure OVERSHOT the target, and my eyes are now farsighted!! That's why I can't focus on the sights easily/quickly/etc...

Great... Next appointment in 3 months, I'll probably be going for a touch-up. I know my eyes will start to get farsighted on their own soon (hitting 40 soon), I have no desire to give them a running start in that process!!
 
I had PRK done. It took me about six months before my eyes were "retrained" to focus quickly and accurately. I could see better than I ever had in my life, but I know precisely what you mean about the "lag" in focus times!

The doc wouldn't do LASIK for me because it would have left the cornea too thin to go in and do a re-touch. There is a minimum thickness they like to maintain when they have your eye peeled back and are re-shaping it.

It's been four years this month since I had it done, no touch-ups and still 20/15 vision in both eyes. The longer recovery time for PRK was worth it!

TLC still uses older technology,..(older meaning 4years+)
Lasik MD uses a new program with the same lasers. Xyopitics program I believe.
 
So looked at another way, now you have perfect vision for....wait for it....OPEN Division!!
