1st Pistol P320 Vs G17

Looking to buy my first pistol, the two that are on top of the list are the P320 Nitron full size and the Glock G17 5th. Both in 9mm, i know the 320 distribution have been held so id wait for the updated version to come out and the Glock 5th gen isn’t out yet. Thatd give me time to choose. Wich one would you buy and why? Pro/cons?

Target shooting and getting familiar with pistols.
 
If you can handle them both, their both excellent and will last a long time. Personally I'd probably go with the Sig. But you'll be happy either way
 
I’m a Glock fan but I’m also not blind to their issues. For most people, that’s the feel of the grip, the angle of the grip, the sights and the trigger, and some say the gun is plain and ugly. The Gen 5 is suppose to have better sights and some improvement on the trigger but that remains to be seen. For me, Glocks work. Parts and accessories are plentiful. It’s easy to repair and work on. And they shoot just fine! But you’ll have less exclusivity as everyone and their dog has a Glock.
The SIG is the new US issue sidearm so that says a lot! The drop issue notwithstanding! It has a nicer factory trigger than the Gen 4 and earlier Glocks. The grip feels solid and it has better sights. If the modularity is important to you, then get the SIG. I say it’s 50/50 on which gun looks better.
 
For redundant purposes, I'll reiterate "try both if you can".

Personally, I hated everything about the 320 when I handled them at the shop and I'm a diehard Glock guy. Love my 17 & 19, and I honestly don't have a single complaint about them, yet.
I don't have any personal interest in the Gen 5's but it's nothing revolutionary over the previous gens, so I'd say go with the glock. In the end, they still have a better resale value.
 
I've owned both and would have a hard time picking one—for both being polymer-framed 9mms they do have quite different handling and shooting characteristics. I think the P320 is more enjoyable to shoot for me, but that's just personal taste. If you can't try both flip a coin and go with that. :)
 
Sig upset me with the whole P320 drop issue. I think that really speaks about their quality control. Glock always has a reputation for reliability but besides that, IMO they aren't good for anything else until you start upgraded them. To answer your question, I would go with the P320. However, I think you should check out the Beretta APX (great out of box trigger), HK VP9, and the CZ P09.
 
In my opinion the stock sights on the Sig are better than Glock. For a first pistol, you may not want to worry about upgrading the sights.

For the “out of the box goodness” factor I would vote Sig.
 
Out of the box if you do not plan any upgrades I would give a slight edge to the 320. If you want to change things, the Glock is very easy to work on, parts are readily available and cheap.
 
The 320 isn't drop safe and SIG sold the public down the river on the problem. The trigger is short but has near zero wall and the same reset as the 22X series, which is release the trigger almost all the way then encounter more slack before the very minimal wall at the break point. The 320 is a reworked SIG 250 so nothing new and nothing special. Bore axis is higher, more parts, trigger as mentioned is awful, it's heavier, it's larger and doesn't have a nearly 40 year track record behind it.

Glock is the answer.
 
Got plenty of good answers for both pistol i will try to find them local first and see how they feel in hands. At this point i do not desire to do upgrade so good out of the box would be ideal. I do not hate the HK VP9 and the M&P 2.0 i will give them a second chance. Thanks everyone for the reply.

The drop “issue” isn’t an issue. Don’t drop your gun.

The trigger isn’t nearly as terrible as you make it out to be. P320 and G17 both have crap triggers in the big picture. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

OP, I’m waiting for the Gen5 G17 and specifically the one with the Ameriglo sights. Those sights fix my biggest gripe with the platform. Though I find the P320 more comfortable in hand, the Glock points better for me. I’m also very happy the finger grooves are gone.
